Floors, Decks and Concrete Coated in Aiken

Dirt Cheap is a demolition contractor working in Aiken, South Carolina, and out across Aiken County. The ground here is sand, and that changes how a teardown goes. County soil maps show Troup and Lakeland sand under about half of Aiken County. Red clay shows up closer to Columbia. Sand caves into an open hole and ruts under a loaded truck. A house that comes out has to be backfilled and packed in layers. The town piles its own kind of work on top of that. Downtown sits inside historic districts full of homes built between 1880 and 1948. Out past Woodside Plantation and Cedar Creek, lots are measured in acres. South and east of town, horse farms sit along dirt roads that were left unpaved on purpose.

We are a family business out of West Columbia. Our crew runs the equipment and is on the job site every day, and a real person picks up the office phone. The business is family owned and woman owned. Our shop sits on Edmund Highway, about an hour from Aiken by way of I-20 and Highway 19. We bring full-size excavators, dozers, and a tri-axle Kenworth dump truck with trailers. That is the size of machine a real teardown takes. Around Aiken we take down houses and double wides, pull down old commercial buildings, and clear brush off acreage. We also grade lots, cut building pads, dig for drain lines, pour concrete flatwork, and install septic systems. Estimates cost nothing. Call (803) 796-4727.

What makes demolition in Aiken different?

Age is the first thing. Homes in the historic districts around downtown went up between 1880 and 1948. Close to a third of the housing in Aiken was built before 1970. Old framing and brick chimneys come down differently than new construction does. The second thing is manufactured housing. About one in five homes in Aiken County is a mobile home. Plenty of them have reached the end. We pull the tie-downs, cut the unit into sections, and clear the pad. Then the ground gets filled and packed level so the lot is ready for whatever comes next.

Permits work in two places here. Inside the city limits, the City of Aiken handles building and demolition permits. Outside them, that goes through the Aiken County planning and development office. We pull what the job needs before a machine moves, and utilities get cut and capped first. After the structure is down, the debris leaves on our own trucks as part of the job. Michelle Gumm said in her Google review: "Contracted them to demolish a double wide on my property. They did it quickly and cleaned up great. Even brought in fill to level the area out. Marked the septic system as required."

Dirt work on Aiken horse property and acreage

Aiken County carries more than 500 miles of unpaved public road. In the horse district the roads stay dirt on purpose, since pavement is hard on hooves. Hitchcock Woods runs about 2,100 acres of sand trail inside the city limits. Land out toward Three Runs Plantation, Bridle Creek, and New Bridge sells by the acre. Acreage takes bigger machines than a quarter-acre lot does. We clear pasture and trail ground with dozers and full-size excavators. Stumps come out of the ground rather than getting ground down. Then we shape the dirt so water runs off, and lay a stone lane back to the barn.

The town keeps growing at the same time. New subdivisions are going in on the Northside and out along Wire Road. Aiken County sits inside the Augusta metro, and the Savannah River Site pulls workers from across it. So old buildings come down on one street while fresh lots get cut somewhere else in town. Sand is easy to move and hard to hold in place. Aiken takes about 51 inches of rain a year, and a lane cut straight into sand will wash. We build ground up instead, with a crown, a stone base, and a packed top. US 1 runs from our end of the Midlands into Aiken, through the town of Lexington on the way. We run the same machines down to Orangeburg as well. We will come look at your ground. Call (803) 796-4727.

Aiken FAQ

Questions From Aiken Property Owners

A few of the questions we hear most around Aiken. Don't see yours? Call the office and ask.

Call (803) 796-4727

How much does demolition cost in Aiken?
Price comes from the size of the structure and what it is built from. Access matters, and so does where the debris has to go. A brick house runs more than a single wide. Sandy ground adds backfill and compaction to the number. Estimates are free, so call (803) 796-4727 and we will price the job.
Do you tear down mobile homes around Aiken?
Yes. Single wides and double wides are steady work in Aiken County, where about one in five homes is manufactured. We pull the tie-downs, cut the unit down, and clear the pad. The septic tank gets marked, and the ground gets filled and packed level for the next use.
Can you clear and grade acreage outside the city?
Yes. We clear pasture, trail ground, and grown over lots, pull the stumps, and shape the dirt so water runs off. Sandy Aiken County ground needs stone under a farm lane to hold up. Our dozers and full-size excavators are built for acreage work. Call (803) 796-4727 and we will come look.
