House & Mobile Home Demolition in West Columbia, SC

Residential Demolition · West Columbia, SC

Full size machines take the house down and leave the lot level.

House demolition is the full teardown of a home, down to bare dirt. We take down houses, mobile homes, and double wides for property owners around West Columbia and Columbia. Some have burned. Some sat empty for years and went past fixing. Others are old mobile homes that must be off the lot before a new one is set. What sits under the house comes out too, from the slab to the concrete steps.

Dirt Cheap is a family owned and woman owned business with a shop on Edmund Hwy in West Columbia. Our crew runs the equipment and is on the job site every day, and our office handles the schedule. We work with full size excavators, dozers, and a tri-axle dump truck with trailers. Most jobs sit inside about 50 miles of the shop. That takes in Lexington, Cayce, and the rest of the Midlands. Estimates are free, so call (803) 796-4727 and tell us what needs to come down.

How we take a house or mobile home down

It starts with a look at the property. We come out, see the structure, check how close the machines can get, and price the job. Brittany Gantt said in her Google review: "I had an emergency involving my mobile home, not only was it after hours when they made the decision to come help me. They helped me figure out a solution to fix my problem." Before anything comes down, power, water, and gas have to be cut at the source by the utility. If the lot is grown up around the house, we clear the brush and trees off first.

Then the machines go to work. A full size excavator pulls the walls and roof in on themselves. The pile drops in one place instead of spreading across the yard. Metal, appliances, and anything that has to stay separate get pulled out. The slab, the concrete steps, and the block piers come out with the house. Debris leaves on our own trucks as part of the job. The last step is fill and grade. If you are building back, we can shape the pad for what comes next.

What does house demolition cost in the Midlands?

House demolition cost starts with size, and a single wide is a different job than a two story brick house. What the house is built of matters too, because brick and block carry more weight than wood frame. Then there is what sits under it, like a slab, a crawl space, or block piers. Access moves the number as well. A tight city lot with power lines overhead takes more setup than a wide open yard. If a full size excavator and a truck can park beside the house, the work goes faster.

Debris volume matters, and so does the run to a disposal site. Extra structures add to it, like a detached garage, an in ground pool, or an old concrete driveway. Buried pipe and old tanks turn part of the day into dig work with the same machines. Permit fees and utility disconnects sit with the county and the utility company. Machine size shows up in the price too, since a house comes down in fewer passes with the right excavator. We price a teardown after we look at it in person. Estimates are free, so call (803) 796-4727.

What else comes down on a Midlands property?

Houses and mobile homes are most of this work. We also take out detached garages, barns, sheds, and in ground pools. A pool gets drained, broken up, and backfilled, so the yard is solid ground again. Fire damaged houses come down the same way, with the burnt material kept apart from the rest. Storefronts and churches follow a different set of rules, and we handle those under a commercial scope. For a large demolition project we will travel anywhere in South Carolina.

Midlands ground is red clay, and it holds water after a hard rain. A wet lot can bog down a loaded truck, so we watch the weather and plan the days around it. Clay also settles, so a hole left behind needs fill and packing. County rules matter as well. Most teardowns need a permit from the county building department, and some of the paperwork comes from the state. The septic tank and well have to be marked before the machines move. Michelle Gumm said in her Google review: "Contracted them to demolish a double wide on my property. They did it quickly and cleaned up great. Even brought in fill to level the area out. Marked the septic system as required."

FAQ

Residential Demolition Questions, Answered

Common questions about residential demolition across the Midlands. Don't see yours? Give us a call and ask.

Call (803) 796-4727

Does mobile home demolition include getting everything off the lot?
Yes. Mobile home removal takes the whole thing off the property. That means the home, the skirting, the steps, the tie downs, and the block piers. We mark the septic tank first, then fill and level the pad. Single wides and double wides both come down with a full size excavator. Estimates are free at (803) 796-4727.
Can you tear down a house that burned?
Yes. Fire damaged houses are a regular part of our work, including teardowns we do for local governments. Burnt material gets kept apart from the clean debris. The walls come down with the excavator instead of by hand, which is safer on a weakened structure. The lot is left cleared and graded.
Do I need a permit to tear down a house?
Usually yes. Most Midlands teardowns need a demolition permit from the county building department. Power, water, and gas must be disconnected before work starts. Some counties also want the septic tank and well marked. We tell you what to line up, and we start once it clears.
Can you take out a pool, barn, garage, or shed?
Yes. In ground pools, barns, detached garages, and sheds all come down with the same excavators. A pool is drained first, then broken up and filled back in so the ground is usable. Smaller structures often go in a single day. Call (803) 796-4727 for a free estimate.
How long does a house demolition take?
Most single family teardowns run one to three days on site. Size, what the house is built of, and how close the machines can park all move that. Utility disconnects and the permit often take longer than the teardown itself, so start those early. We give you a window with the estimate.

Real Demolition Equipment

Full size CASE excavators, dozers and a tri axle Kenworth dump truck. Machines sized for two story houses, commercial buildings and whole lots. A mini excavator crew cannot do this work.

Teardown to Finished Site

One contractor takes the structure down, clears the lot, brings in fill, grades it flat and can finish with gravel, concrete or a septic system. No handoffs between companies, no waiting on a second crew.

Debris Leaves With Us

Hauling off the mess is part of the job, on our own trucks. The site gets cleaned as the teardown happens, so when the machines load up and leave, the lot is done.
